Playing for third place in the Oakmont Rotary, the Vikings received contributions from the entire line-up to catch and overtake Rio Linda 60-53. Brittany Martin and Tianne Adams, brought up from the junior varsity to give the Vikings added bench strength, combined with Lauren Eyster and Brianna Morin to provide quality minutes as Oakmont fought back from a 21-9 first period deficit. “We knew we could come back,” said Oakmont head coach Al Voigt. “We wanted them to be aware it wasn't going to happen all at once. However, we did catch up sooner than I expected.” Gina Spino scored eight points in the second period, while Sabrina Ali had seven in the period and Shelby Kelch scored six to aid the Vikings as they knotted the score at 32 right before half. Trying to buy a few seconds of rest and keep Kelch out of foul trouble almost cost the Vikings as they fouled then compounded the problem by turning the ball over and went into the half down by four. The frantic pace continued in the second half as Kelch continued to push and Meghan Riley started to take control of the boards as the Vikings led 45 - 44 after three quarters. Scott hit two key baskets in the fourth quarter and, after Kelch fouled out, Jennifer Gong took over running the offense while limiting Rio Linda's leading scorer to three of her game-high 16 points in the second half. Ali took out any frustration she had from the previous day shooting struggles by pounding away at the basket and finishing with 26 points to lead the Vikings on the offensive end.
