FAIRFIELD - Oakmont High School suited up five juniors and four sophomores for its first Sac-Joaquin Section girls basketball playoff game in seven years. Vanden started the Solano County Athletic Conference MVP, two All-SCAC first-team selections and two honorable-mention honorees.

The 13th-seeded Vikings also discovered Vanden enjoyed the three-point shot. Fourth-seeded Vanden, which has won 12 consecutive conference titles, made 11 of 31 three-point attempts and took advantage of 31 turnovers to roll over Oakmont 74-39 in a Division III opener Tuesday night at James L. Boyd Gymnasium. Oakmont had trouble with Vanden's double teams and often became trapped along the sidelines.

"We dribbled the ball too much instead of looking to pass," Vikings coach Al Voigt said.

Vanden (21-7) shot to a 14-2 lead after one quarter and built a 38-16 halftime advantage. Junior Adrianna Jones made back-to-back three-pointers in the fourth quarter and four total to lead all scorers with 16 points. Conference MVP Lindsay Littlejohn made three three-pointers and scored 13 points. Senior All-SCAC picks Denisha Lundy and Tahvia Morrison scored eight points each.

Sophomore Emilee Gavia scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the second half for Oakmont and grabbed five rebounds. Oakmont junior Brittany Martin led all rebounders with seven.

The Vikings (15-13) set a goal to qualify for the playoffs, but Voigt heard some people say his team wouldn't win a game in Capital Valley Conference play. Oakmont went 5-5 in the CVC.

"We're young," Voigt said. "I'm proud of our team. We didn't quit."
