Oakmont’s Gedeon, Granite Bay’s Lee tie for eighth at state golf tournament
Paige Lee of Granite Bay High School and Maddie Gedeon of Oakmont tied for eighth place in the CIF/CGA Girls State Championship tournament Tuesday at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
Gedeon and Lee were among 12 golfers at 4-over-par 76. Gedeon had 10 pars, six bogeys and two birdies — on the 385-yard, par-4 14th and 138-yard, par-3 17th. Lee had eight pars, seven bogeys and birdied three holes — the 364-yard, par-4 third, 351-yard, par-4 seventh and 168-yard, par-3 11th.
Granite Bay coach Jason Sitterud said Lee started strong and was even par through nine holes and 1 under through 11 before hitting a rough patch.
“She’s a great player, but her iron game let her down a little bit,” Sitterud said. “But she fought and hung in there.”
Sarah Cho of Torrey Pines and Cha Cha Willhoite of Palm Desert each shot 1-under 71, and Cho won the medalist honor on the second playoff hole.
Torrey Pines won the team championship with a 21-over 381 total. Torrance was second at 383, Palm Desert third at 386, Mission San Jose fourth at 410, Pleasanton-Amador Valley fifth at 420 and Christian Brothers sixth at 432. Roseville resident Clare Sorensen shot an 83 for Christian Brothers.
