Now 12-0, Roseville is host to Woodland on Friday
Roseville High School’s boys basketball team will take a 12-0 record into a nonleague home game against Woodland tonight coming off one of its toughest victories of the season.
The Tigers, held to 25 points in the second half, edged host Florin 68-64 on Tuesday night.
“We’re getting everyone’s best effort,” Tigers coach Greg Granucci said. “They did a good job slowing us down. You gotta give them a lot of credit.”
Matt Tawlks led Roseville with 14 points, including two free throws with 6.9 seconds remaining after the Tigers made a stop on defense. Daniel Rios scored 12 points and Marcus Garcia nine for the Tigers, who played their fifth game in six nights.
Before blowing out Yuba City 87-65 on Monday night, the Tigers edged Atwater-Buhach Colony 89-86 on Saturday to win the Buck Bailey Tournament in Woodland. It was Roseville’s third tournament championship this season.
All-tournament selection Roman Tyukayev scored 21 points in a 78-69 win over Valley in the tournament opener and 16 in a 91-65 rout of Napa in a semifinal. Garcia also was named to the all-tournament team.
Dillon Bortmas scored 12 points and Tawlks 10 against Valley, and Rios had 14 points and Tawlks and Will White eight apiece against Napa. Roseville outscored Napa 19-4 in the second quarter to take a 49-24 lead.
Oakmont 69, Elk Grove 35 — The host Vikings (11-3) led 14-3 after one quarter and hammered the Thundering Herd. The balanced Vikings had 11 players score and were led by Sydney Sattelberg with 13 points and Brittany Martin with 11.
Emilee Gavia and Kelsey Caudill scored nine points each, Ashley Rominger had eight and Olivia Francis seven.
