NorCal tourney is next for Granite Bay golf team
Granite Bay High School’s boys golf season will continue into next week.
The Grizzlies shot a team score of 388 to finish third in the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament on Monday at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.
Del Oro shot a 381 to beat Davis by one stroke for the championship. Granite Bay beat Jesuit by three strokes for the final berth in the Northern California Championships next Monday, May 23, at Butte Creek Country Club in Chico. The State Championship is June 8 at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach. Christian Brothers and Oak Ridge tied for fifth at 392.
The Grizzlies won the Division II section title last week, beating Christian Brothers and Del Oro with an assault on the back nine at Haggin Oaks.
Sophomore Chuck Pedone led that charge, and he led Granite Bay again Monday with a 1-over-par 73. Junior Alex Gibbs shot a 77, senior Connor Hallisey a 78 and sophomore Brandon Baumgarten a 79 for the Grizzlies. Sophomore Bryan Wise shot an 81 and Zach Witt an 87.
Paul Smith of Turlock was the medalist with a 3-under 69. Corey Pereira of Ponderosa and Charlie Cameron of Oak Ridge each carded a 73 and qualified for the NorCal tournament as individuals. Five players shot 74, and Will Brink of Manteca-East Union earned the final berth with a birdie on the third playoff hole.
Corey Eddings of Oakmont shot a 75 and Lee Gearhart of Woodcreek a 76.
