The Gina Montes SureWest-Woodcreek Varsity Invitational baseball tournament continues today and concludes Wednesday with the championship at 2 p.m. at Rosemont High School.

The title game won’t involve a Roseville school. Bella Vista, Casa Roble, Rosemont and Ponderosa won their brackets to advance to the semifinals today.

Pool play ended Monday with Oakmont shutting out Inderkum 10-0, Woodcreek losing to Bella Vista 13-7, Roseville falling to Ponderosa 14-11 and Valley Christian dropping a 13-10 decision to Rosemont.

Joel Bennett pitched well for four innings, and Logan Coggeshall pitched the fifth and final inning for the Vikings, as the two combined on a four-hitter with one walk. Ryan Gearing, Cody Baron, Chris Novielli and Jimmy Lunardelli all went 2 for 2 for Oakmont. Novielli and Kyle Jones each had a double, and Lunardelli drove in two runs. Drew Wixon also had a double and two RBI.

Oakmont finished second to Rosemont in its bracket and was scheduled to play at Oak Ridge today.

Valley Christian trailed Rosemont 13-4 before scoring six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. John Unruh, Bryan Roush and Aaron Perchaz had two hits each for the Lions, and Anthony Demasi had three RBI. Unruh and Junior Casas drove in two runs apiece.

Valley Christian had five doubles among its 11 hits, and 10 players scored one run each. The Lions play Yuba City today.

Woodcreek was set to play Pioneer today after falling to Bella Vista. A win would have put the Timberwolves in the semifinals. Bella Vista was 3-0 in its bracket; the other three teams were 1-2. Kyle Dixon and Wade Brill each went 2 for 3 for Woodcreek, and Brandon Raposa homered.

Roseville rode a grand slam by Nick Blaser to an 11-7 lead over Ponderosa but surrendered five runs in the sixth and two in the seventh. Nick Blaser, Dalton Blaser, Zach Anderson, Garrett Nunally and Brennik Eltagonde-Gonzalez all had two hits for the Tigers, who play Vista del Lago today.
