Participants of the Poker Run to Feed the Hungry hit the road Saturday for a 65-mile motorcycle ride that began at Roseville Yamaha and wove around the Sierra Nevada foothills, through Loomis, Auburn, Grass Valley, Penryn, Newcastle and Rocklin, before returning to the dealership for a barbecue. Jake Coplen, 16, organized the event to raise money for the Placer Food Bank. His dad, Sean, said the event had 42 bikes and 53 riders — some people rode as passengers — and raised $2,000. “A great time was had by all,” Sean Coplen said. “The ride and weather were perfect. (We) had a great, relaxing stop at Auburn Alehouse.” Some riders donated hundreds of dollars above the entry fee, he said, including participant Victor Berg, “who went above and beyond (with) his donation.” He donated $500 in the name of the "Central Valley Star Riders" of the International Star Riders Asscoiation. ~Sena Christian
