Sherrie Meyers recently joined Gold Country Media as Classified Manager. Meyers will oversee classified sales for all Gold Country Media newspapers, including the Press Tribune. Meyers first started working in newspapers in 1973, when she did front counter sales at the San Jose Mercury News. She has since held numerous other classified sales and management positions at newspapers in Northern California and Washington state. “It’s a challenging industry,” she said. “I think I would be bored if I didn’t constantly have something different. You never know when you receive a call if it’s going to be someone with a lost dog or someone who needs to hire three employees right away.” Advertising Director Suzanne Stevenson said Meyers is ready to help newspapers adapt to the 21st century. “She understands the hurdles newspapers face and approaches it as a challenge. With her experience at other publications she brings a fresh look at our operations,” she said. “Her immediate focuses will include technological changes in the classified department, expanding readership, and developing additional products to reach an expanded audience.” Stevenson said Meyers is already working on a redesign to the classified section that should please readers. Although there have been many changes in classifieds over the years, Meyers said the goal of classified advertising has remained the same. “We solve problems for people, whether they have to find a house or sell their car,” she said. When not at work, Meyers enjoys reading murder mysteries, antiquing and playing with her two dogs, Sparky, a Jack Russell terrier, and Coco, a black Labrador.
