Local speedway to honor military Saturday

First responders and the military will be honored in various ways during the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program Saturday at All American Speedway in Roseville as a tribute to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Active military and first responders in uniform or with a photo ID will be admitted free to the grandstands. The Roseville Fire Department will have a ladder truck and equipment on display, and the Sacramento Ironworkers will bring a steel piece of an “I” beam from the World Trade Center. A tribute will be held on the track during the national anthem. On the track, the Bomber and Street Stock division championships will be decided. Jim McGinnis has six main-event wins this season and a 28-point lead over David Thompson in the Bomber division. In Street Stock, Chris Lambert leads Mickey Owens by 33 points. Owens has six wins and Lambert five. There also will be racing in the Late Model, Modified and S2 classes. Junior Timberwolves homecoming The Woodcreek Junior Timberwolves are inviting alumni and the community to their homecoming football game today against the Antelope Junior Titans. The organization will honor area teachers in addition to the teams and cheer squads, and the Placer Co. Sheriff’s Department Color Guard will make a special presentation during the Junior Pee Wee game to honor servicemen and servicewomen. Admission and lunch will be provided for those wearing a uniform or showing an official ID. Games will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Woodcreek High School. Honey Festival will include run/walk The first Placer County Honey Festival, scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 19, at Ron Feist Park in Granite Bay, includes a 3K/5K run/walk. Stars of outdoor reality show to appear in Rocklin Chad Belding of the TV series “The Fowl Life with Chad Belding” and members of Team Fowl Life and Team Maniac will conduct seminars during the annual Sportsman’s Warehouse Waterfowl Weekend from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 18-19, at 6640 Lonetree Blvd. in Rocklin. Belding will conduct a Q&A session from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Sun City to host national AAU senior championships The inaugural National AAU Senior Championships will be held from Oct. 13-17 at Sun City Roseville. Competition for men and women ages 50 and up will be held in golf, softball, bocce, bowling, billiards, cycling, pickleball, tennis and table tennis. The golf tournament will be a stroke-play event at Timber Creek and will feature gross and net scoring for men and women in senior and super senior (ages 70-plus) divisions.
