Local artists prep for annual studios tour

Seven Granite Bay and Roseville artists will participate this year

Sixty-seven local artists are prepping their studios for the 18th annual PlacerArts Autumn Art Studios Tour.

Many artists will open their private studios for the self-guided tour, while others will participate in group shows at The Arts Building and Old Library Art Studios in Auburn, Finnish Temperance Hall in Rocklin, High Hand in Loomis and Newcastle Packing Shed Art Studios.

Placer County is a natural habitat for artists, who translate the foothill vistas, wildlife, historic buildings and gardens into a stunning variety of interpretations, according to a PlacerArts press release.

The studio tour gives artists the opportunity to explain and demonstrate their work, and visitors get the chance to discover new artists and buy original art.

Seven Granite Bay and Roseville artists will participate this year, including Mya Louw, Myron Stephens, Pearl Nicolino, Philip K. Sargent, Betsy Kritzon, Craig Johnson and Jenny Stepp.

A preview show featuring one piece from most of the artists runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays until Nov. 30, at High Hand Art Gallery, 3750 Taylor Road in Loomis.

A free reception takes place 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at High Hand, where attendees can meet many of the artists and priortize which studios they want to visit during their tour.
