Sierra Christian of Rocklin had no answers for the defending section Division VII champions Tuesday as the Valley Christian Academy baseball team rolled to an easy 16-0 win on the road. Valley Christian ace Ryan Cordell took the ball for the Lions, but pitched only one inning after his team posted five runs before he took the hill for the home half of second. Cordell fanned all three hitters that he faced and then gave way to Kenneth Whitehurst, Gabe Miramontes and Justin Reiner, who all got some work in during the five-inning game, shortened by the 10-run mercy rule. The Lions banged out a dozen hits, led by catcher David Risucci’s four knocks. The senior backstop also drive in four runs. Cordell was 3-for-4 at the dish, while Reiner and Miramontes each chased home a pair for Valley Christian. Chris Parker added a triple. The Lions host a repeat meeting with Sierra Christian on Friday, and then visit San Juan for a Saturday morning contest.
