Lincoln Hills claims Sun City Cup third straight year

Local mens golf club win by a slim margin
The Lincoln Hills Mens Golf Club averaged just .74 strokes better than Roseville’s Mens Golf Club, but it was enough to grab their third-straight victory over their counterparts in the Sun City Cup tournament played at Lincoln Hills, Aug. 22. Lincoln Hills took three of the five flights with net rounds of 67 (Paul Yeager), 66 (Jack Drinkard), and 65 (Chuck Frevele), and then got a lot of help to keep the cup in Lincoln. Roseville’s Jim Dachauer fired a net 66 to claim Flight 4, and teammate Bill Ledoux had the low round of the tournament (net 63) to take Flight 5. Flight 1’s Burt Swart (net 68), and Steve Mumma (net 68) of Lincoln Hills took the second and third place, while Sam Munoz, Joe Angel, Barry Reed, and Joe McLeod earned spots five through eight. Lincoln Hill’s Rick Garcia was second in Flight 2 with a net 66, and Dave Jansen shot a net 70 for fifth place. Jim Page and Dudley Lewis had net 66 and net 67 respectively to come in at the third and fourth spots in Flight 3. Although Roseville topped Flight 4, Lincoln’s Roger Corley finished just two shots behind with a net 68. Lincoln Hill’s Roger Albright carded a 69 for fifth place. The visitors did get the best of Flight 5,but John Duggan garnered third with a net 68, and Bob McCollum turned in a net 71 for sixth place. Closest-to-the-pin honors went to Lincoln’s Mercer Tyson on hole 7 (4 feet), and Swart put the ball to within 7-feet, 8-inches to claim hole 12. Garcia put his tee shot 6-feet, 2 ½ inches from the hole on No. 16. Roseville’s Chuck Krause earned top spot on No. 5 knocking his ball to within 5-feet, 10-inches of the pin. Two-Man Best Ball _ The results of the Lincoln Hills Mens Club tournament held Aug. 9 are as follows: Flight 1: Ron Cook, Mumma net 61, Ken Jacobson, Mark Motell net 62, John Vass, Angel net 62. Flight 2: Yeager, Garcia net 57, Montie Boatwright, Paul Krow net 58, Roger Cummings, Tom Traxel net 58. Flight 3: Henry Olsen, Glenn Arney net 56, Paul Apfel, Gerald Patchen net 58, Corley, Richard Jones net 58. Closest-to-the-pin: No. 5, Jones (2-11), No. 7, Gene Andrews (6-4), No. 12, Bill Bowen (10-7), No. 16, Jim Sawyer (8-1). Cook took first in the putting contest. The Horserace Derby, sponsored by Enhancing Dental Care, went to Bud Barnett and Bowen, Roy Jordan and Howard Hamilton were second, and Ivan Carlson and Dan Fuller came in third.
