LeDoux tournament semifinals are put on hold by rain
Semifinals? Did someone say semifinals?
The annual Stephanie LeDoux Easter Tournament got through the winners’ bracket quarterfinals Friday but barely got out of the gate Saturday at Maidu Park before play was called because of rain.
Roseville was due to face Ponderosa in one semifinal with Woodcreek facing Center in the other. The local softball teams were one victory away from meeting for the championship for the second year in a row. The Tigers beat the Timberwolves 1-0 in the 2011 final.
Woodcreek coach Art Banks said Monday the tournament could be completed April 14, but a venue and game times still were being worked out. Because the semis now are probably 10 days away, Banks didn’t much want to talk about the semifinals.
“We have three league games before the semifinals,” he said.
Woodcreek (13-1) and Roseville (9-4-1) allowed one run each in two games. The Timberwolves rode the pitching of Amanda Horbasch and Lexi Wilkerson to victories over Del Campo 5-1 and Marysville 3-0.
Woodcreek’s final run against Marysville came on what Banks described as a “picture-perfect” suicide squeeze bunt by Paige Davis, scoring Alex Pratt.
The Tigers defeated Wheatland 4-0 and Oakmont 3-1. Roseville’s Delany DeMello pitched a no-hitter against Wheatland and allowed just two base runners.
Danielle Crockett and Kalei Levy had two hits each. Stephanie Johnson ripped a triple and freshman Naomi Monahan a double.
Monahan, Mackensie Priley and Lollie Fitzpatrick each had two hits for Roseville in the win over Oakmont.
Kayla Fields allowed four hits, including a triple by Justine Garner, who was thrown out at the plate trying to stretch it into a home run.
Oakmont (6-6) opened with a 14-3 win over Wheatland behind Taylor Paul, who had two doubles and six RBI. Marisa Andrade had three hits, three RBI and scored three runs.
The Vikings lost to Vista del Lago 8-4 on Saturday morning.
Granite Bay (7-4) lost to Vista del Lago 3-0 and Shasta 8-0.
