Sac-Joaquin Section basketball playoff brackets will be released Wednesday.

Whether Valley Christian Academy is in the Division V bracket depends on the outcome of Tuesday night’s regular-season finale. The Lions rolled over Sacramento Adventist 86-50 on Thursday night and will play host to Yuba City-Faith Christian at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for a share of the Sacramento Metro Athletic League championship.

Faith Christian is 21-5 overall and 8-1 in the SMAL. Valley Christian is 9-12 and 7-2. Vacaville-Buckingham Charter also is 7-2 in league and closes at Sacramento Adventist (5-15, 4-5). Valley Christian split two games against Buckingham Charter, which split two with Faith Christian. Valley Christian will try to gain a split with Faith Christian, along with a share of the SMAL crown and a playoff berth.

“Not a bad thing for a season full of injuries and youth,” coach Brad Gunter Jr. said. “I told the players after the game that this is every athlete’s dream — the ability to control your own destiny and a game that players will remember the rest of their lives.”

Sophomore Forest Ryan scored 23 points for the Lions, who led 47-23 at halftime. Senior Jimmy Shaw scored 15 points, junior Hunter Fenn 11 and senior Levi Hagerty 10. Twelve of Valley Christian’s 14 players scored.

Valley Christian 54, Sacramento Adventist 28 — While the boys will play for a league title on the final night of the regular season, the Lady Lions (13-9, 11-0 SMAL) have had the championship clinched for almost two weeks.

Junior Grace Magni scored 17 points and sophomore Lily Hagerty 16 for the Lady Lions, who will play Faith Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
