Lakeside falls into losers' bracket in NorCal Division 2 Major tourney
Lakeside Little League now must take the long road to win the Northern California Division 2 Tournament.
Lakeside lost to River Park of Fresno 12-5 on Monday night in a winners’ bracket semifinal and will begin the daily grind at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Turlock National.
Coming off a 7-6 walk-off victory over Quito of Los Gatos in its tournament opener Sunday, Lakeside failed to capitalize on numerous opportunities against River Park.
Jade Foddrill hit a three-run homer and Brandon Chinnapongse roped an RBI double, but Lakeside wasted other chances with runners on.
“It’s a game we should have won,” assistant coach John Tafoya said. “The boys were just a little bit flat. We just couldn’t get the bat on the ball.
“Now it’s going to take us until Saturday to win it.”
Lakeside advanced in the winners’ bracket when Derek Galvan hit a two-run walk-off homer against Quito on Sunday. Kyle Sisco drew a leadoff walk before Galvan’s bomb.
Lakeside pulled within 4-3 on Kenny LeBeau’s two-run homer and Dante Tafoya’s misplayed fly that scored Kevin Riley.
Trailing 6-3, Collin Stanaway stroked a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth.
