It was no contest from the outset Wednesday night at the Lodi Softball Complex. The Valley Christian Academy softball team scored early and often as it blew out Brookside Christian 20-0 in the opening round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII playoffs. Abby Moore pitched all five innings in the contest that was shortened due to the 10-run mercy rule, limiting Brookside to just one hit while striking out nine batters. Moore also had two hits for a VCA team that poured on the offense. Midori Bounds, Keri McClintock, Brianna Flood and Erin Patterson each had three hits for the Lions, while Sierra Trask also had a pair of hits. The win moves Valley Christian into the semifinals of the single-elimination tournament. The Lions face Millenium of Tracy at 10 a.m. Saturday at Arnaiz Field in Stockton. The winner of that game will move on to the title game at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the likely opponent being Jim Elliott Christian.
