Kennedy will be remembered

-A +A
It was a sad day for me to learn about the death of Senator Ted Kennedy. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for the Kennedy family after enduring the recent loss of Eunice Kennedy-Shriver who was also an icon within the family. They were clearly altruistic individuals who fought hard and fair for humanitarian issues. My father, Rodolfo M. Cuellar, was a local journalist, Chicano activist, political organizer and farm-worker advocate in the early 1960s. He was a staunch Kennedy supporter who played an active role in securing Latino votes for John F. Kennedy and his brother, Robert F. Kennedy. I am fortunate to own an original photo of Robert F. Kennedy while campaigning in Sacramento for Edmund G. Brown in 1966.  My dad and his associates campaigned for JFK and RFK in the Placer, San Joaquin Valley, Woodland and Sacramento communities. I am certain that they would’ve worked as diligently for Sen. Ted Kennedy, had he continued his race as President of the United States. Instead, he was destined to become the greatest senator in 100 years, (according to a report on CNN, Aug. 26.)  I would like to extend my heart-felt sympathy to the Kennedy family... May he rest in peace. Sylvia Cuellar, Roseville
