John Piches, alternate for Placer County Supervisor Jack Duran on the Roseville Veterans Memorial Hall Board, has announced his retirement from the board after serving since 1998. The World War II veteran has been an active member of the local community for decades, and he spearheaded Roseville’s annual Memorial Day and Veterans Day events. Piches announced he was stepping down from the position at the March 5 board meeting. Duran thanked him for his service and commitment to the county. “John is a true American hero in every sense of the word,” Duran said. “He has made undeniable sacrifices to our city, county and country.” Piches will be replaced by former board member and Vietnam veteran Charlie Peterson. Peterson spent eight years in the service, including five years overseas and two tours in Vietnam. He has been working with veterans since returning home in 1968. ~ Staff report
