Granite Bay High School graduate Ryan Hollingshead was selected by FC Dallas with the first pick in the second round, No. 20 overall, in the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday in Indianapolis.

Hollingshead, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound midfielder, completed his collegiate career at UCLA last fall by sharing the team lead with seven goals, and he led the Bruins with 61 shots and 22 shots on goal to earn the Pac-12 Player of the Year award.

A team captain, Hollingshead helped lead UCLA to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and he finished his career with 16 goals and 21 assists. Hollingshead was named first-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Far West Region, third-team Capital One Academic All-American and was the Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year.

He capped his high school career by dealing two assists in Granite Bay’s 5-2 victory over Oakmont in the 2009 Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championship match.
