High turnout as Kendall wins athlete of the month

In by far the largest voter turnout in the short history of The Press Tribune athlete of the month, Granite Bay soccer’s Sarah Kendall received 51 percent of nearly 14,000 votes cast to earn the honors for the month of May. Kendall’s 6,779 edged out Woodcreek swimmer Brian Westlake in the online tally conducted at and Kendall, a senior midfielder, was a leader for the Granite Bay girls soccer team that ran through its Sierra Foothill League schedule with a perfect 12-0 record. Headed for Creighton University on a soccer scholarship, Kendall is closing out her Granite Bay career in style. She has 11 goals and nine assists this season for the Grizzlies and shared league MVP honors. The midfielder is also part of a club team that recently captured a State Cup title. The Grizzlies reached the section semifinal before losing 1-0 to Oak Ridge as Kendall closed out a great run at Granite Bay.
