Health Express celebrated

Mayor Gina Garbolino and Placer Supervisor Jim Holmes were just two of many special guests in attendance at a community mixer held earlier this month to celebrate the success of Health Express, which provides low to no cost medical transportation service in Western Placer County. “The Placer County Planning agency’s goal is to discover unmet needs and find ways to meet them,” Garbolino said. “One need has always been transportation to medical visits so this was really a wonderful opportunity to bring a solution to a problem.” According to Candace Roeder, executive director of Seniors First, since the program started in Jan. 2009, Health Express currently provides more than 500 rides per month to seniors and residents with disabilities for medically related appointments. The transportation service is made possible through a collaborative program between a network of nonprofit organizations including the Placer Collaborative Network and local health care facilities. “I couldn’t be more thrilled with the program and what it is doing for our community,” Garbolino said. “This is a wonderful example of the community joining together and supporting one another.” For more information about Health Express, visit ~ Megan Wood
