The Granite Bay High junior varsity volleyball team won the Rocklin High JV tournament Saturday. The Grizzlies beat Placer (25-19, 25-15), Rio Linda,(25-12, 25-15), and Pleasant Valley of Chico (25-20, 25-20), to move into bracket play. There they beat the Pleasant Valley freshman team, (25-9,25-15) and Del Oro (25-17, 25-13) to move into the championship game. The Grizzlies beat a tough Nevada Union team for the crown, fighting them off to win in two games, 25-22 and 25-17. Carson Odegard (35 kills), Bryan Berry (26 kills), Matt Austin (20 kills) and Michael Bertolino (17 kills) were the big hitters for Granite Bay, helping the team with their offensive play, supported by the game orchestration of setter Jake Neptune.
