The Grinch, played by Jimmy Witt, determined to stop Christmas, dressed himself like St. Nick and stole all the presents, food for the holiday feast and Christmas tree from The Whos’ house. Witt acted out the scene to a crowd of about 75 people during a rendition of “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” presented by the Dream Theatre Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday in Roseville. The company provides adults with developmental disabilities a meaningful dramatic arts program and the chance to participate in live productions. Last year, Dream Theatre hosted a big holiday show open to the public, but decided this year to invite other centers and high school transition programs for people with disabilities to enjoy the free daytime shows. After “the Grinch” performance, the theater’s choir sang Christmas carols. “We’re hoping to make this an annual event,” said theater co-owner Michelle Wheeler. As for The Whos, they awaked Christmas morning to no gifts or tree. But that didn’t stop them from celebrating the holiday. “He hadn’t stopped Christmas from coming,” said Father Christmas, played by David Seybold. “It came just the same.” The Grinch, he said, learned the valuable lesson that Christmas doesn’t come from a store. ~ Sena Christian
