Grass fire burns on outskirts of Roseville

One home was threatened in a 50-acre grass fire that broke out around 5 p.m. Friday on Fiddyment Road just north of Roseville. “Firefighters were able to quickly do structure protection, get in the middle and protect that home,” said Daniel Berlant with CalFire. The fire continued to burn after 6 p.m. as fire crews from Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln and Placer County assisted CalFire in getting the fire contained. At one point, the blaze did reach a metal hay barn where the contents caught fire, but no other structural damage was reported, Berlant said. The cause of the fire is under investigation and Berlant could not speculate as to whether or not is was caused by fireworks. “Despite the fact that we had rain the last couple days, the conditions out here and the grass out here is dry enough to burn,” Berlant said. “This is a sign of what is possibly to come over the next couple of weeks.” ~ Toby Lewis
