Wade Graves and Matt Thompson came back to defeat top-seeded Chris Hartman and Lucas Hauptman of Rocklin 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 to win the Sierra Foothill League doubles championship Thursday in Rocklin.

It was a repeat title for Graves, who teamed with Zach Low last year. Thompson was the SFL singles runner-up last season.

Graves and Thompson were seeded second Thursday. They won their quarterfinal match 6-4, 6-2, then defeated Cyrus Mann and Max Hennessey of Del Oro 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

Chinar Sheth and Andrew Boone of Granite Bay and Sean Flynn and Kevin Tran of Roseville lost in the quarterfinals.

In the B flight, Roseville’s Monroe Chabrier and Zack House and Granite Bay’s Bradley Chee and Johnny Zhang were beaten in the semifinals.

Chee and Zhang, seeded No. 1, lost to No. 4 Hunter Snyder and Michael Yadon of Rocklin. Chabrier and House fell to No. 2 Taylor Butterfield and Kyle Borges of Del Oro 6-2, 4-6, 10-5.

Two Oakmont duos advance to finals

Oakmont High School had two tennis teams advance to the finals of the Capital Valley Conference doubles tournament Thursday at Gold River Racquet Club.

Ian Utz and Kevin Salatti lost 6-7, 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 2 doubles final, and Jake Osterholt and Nick Huey fell 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 final. Both lost to Bella Vista duos.

Vikings coach Christine Mabery said her teams hadn’t played in the wind in awhile.

“Just one too many errors,” she said. “We just couldn’t make it happen.”

Utz and Salatti had a bye and then defeated a Del Campo team 6-2, 6-4. Osterholt and Huey won two matches en route to the final — 10-9 in a pro set over a Del Campo duo and 6-1, 6-2 over a Christian Brothers team.

“It was a good ending for the season,” Mabery said. “We’re ready for next season already.”
