By: Staff Report
Granite Bay High golfer Alex Gibbs shared medalist honors with Austin Smotherman of Del Oro at Monday’s Rocklin Invitational, shooting a one-under par 71 over 18 holes at Sunset Whitney. Gibbs’ low score led his Grizzly team to an overall fourth-place finish in the event. The Grizzlies combined for a team score of 402, nine shots behind the team winner, Spanish Springs and just two strokes behind second place Del Oro. Woodcreek totaled 405 as a group to finish fifth, led by Chris Wilson’s 76, which was good enough to tie for seventh place in the individual standings. Bryan Bertilino posted an 80 for Granite Bay after a red-hot 36 on the front nine, while Derek Thacker and Max Kincheloe both tore up the front nine before settling in on the back half. Thacker posted an 82 and Kincheloe finished with an 83. A number of Wilson’s Woodcreek teammates also turned in nice scorecards, with Greg Langseth shooting 39 on the front and 38 coming in for a strong 77. Paul Riling posted an 81 for the Timberwolves and Craig Shay finished with an 83. A Roseville duo, Kevin Ponath and Wally Hix scored well for the Tigers, as both posted scores six-over-par at 78. Nick Anderson shot an 83 for Roseville. Kris Thomas was the lone Oakmont golfer in the below 80, as he shot a six-over 78.
