Granite Bay's Anderson makes U.S. Olympic team

Granite Bay High School graduate Haley Anderson won the FINA USA Marathon Swim Qualifier on Saturday in Setubal, Portugal, and earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic team for this summer’s London Games.

Anderson, an All-American at USC, had a time of 1 hour, 44 minutes, 30.6 seconds in the 10K race. She beat Eva Risztov of Hungary by 1.4 seconds.

Anderson also is scheduled to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials for swimming beginning June 25 in Omaha, Neb.

Brendel wins mile at Golden West Invite

Trent Brendel of Granite Bay won the mile in 4:29.09 at the Golden West Invitational on Saturday at Folsom High School.

Kevin Staniszewski of Granite Bay was fifth in the 300 hurdles and seventh in the 110 hurdles.

Granite Bay’s Paul Zeiss placed second in the freshman mile at 4:40.79, and Zach Vane, Tyler Brendel and McKay Wilkes finished 2-3-4 in the freshman 400.
