Granite Bay’s Junior Pee Wee football team defeated Woodcreek 19-7 in a Sierra Youth Football Conference championship game Saturday at Bear River High School in Grass Valley.
Josh Farr and Blake Peterson hooked up for a 70-yard catch and run for a touchdown, Dante Perecin ran for the extra point, and Farr threw a seven-yard scoring pass to Jade Foddrill as the Junior Grizzlies led 13-7 at halftime.
Granite Bay’s defense made a goal-line stand at the 1-yard line and stopped a Woodcreek drive on fourth and less than a yard on about the Granite Bay 25 with about five minutes remaining in the game.
Running behind its strong offensive line, the Junior Grizzlies scored the clinching touchdown on a 45-yard run up the middle by Peterson.
“Our offensive line was outstanding,” coach Jeff Powers said.
