Granite Bay tennis closes in on perfect run through SFL

Granite Bay High School’s girls tennis team remained unbeaten in the Sierra Foothill League with a 9-0 victory Tuesday at Del Oro.

The Grizzlies (9-0) won seven of nine matches in straight sets and were set to wrap up SFL play Thursday at home against Rocklin.

Lily Forlini outlasted Abby Bacharach 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-4 in the No. 1 singles match. Reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Division II singles champion Kammy Kecki won at No. 2 singles, and Chloe Forlini, Kayla Cline, Lauren Bonham and Kendyl Talley won in straight sets.

In doubles, No. 3 Tanvi Mehta and Erika Kartz of Granite Bay were stretched to three sets by Del Oro’s Sarah Silva and Emily Friesen 6-3, 2-6, 6-1. No. 1 Annalise De Marco and Brooke Williams and No. 2 Kristen Hilburn and Hailey Lederer won in straight sets.

The SFL singles tournament is scheduled for Monday and the doubles tournament for Thursday.


Boys water polo

Granite Bay wins twice — The Grizzlies blew out visiting Woodcreek 18-5 on Tuesday and rolled over Roseville 22-9.

Max Vigeant combined to score 11 goals and Jack Ellinthorpe eight. Nathan Pinkney totaled five goals and Alek Dendall four. Dendall had five steals and four assists against Woodcreek.

Corey Consunji had three goals, and Chase Cooper, Keenan Koukol and Frankie Cervantes each scored two. Scoring one goal each were Liam Bell, Max Ellinthorpe and Patrick Carroll.

In goal, Tyler Kenney had 16 blocked shots and Max Munsell seven.

Leading Roseville were Elijah Keaton and Even Artica with three goals each. Eric Waters scored two goals and Bryce Reichmann one.


Girls water polo

Granite Bay 13, Woodcreek 4 — Six players scored as the Grizzlies downed the Timberwolves. Hayley McAvoy led Granite Bay with four goals, followed by Grace Reego with three and Kat Conen and Megan Plank with two apiece. Jalee Hagans and Megan Klingler each scored one goal.

Senior Sara Northam was tough in the cage again with eight blocked shots.

On Wednesday, Granite Bay had seven players score in a 16-1 victory over Roseville, including a shot from half-tank by senior goalie Sara Northam at the end of the third quarter.

“Sara has a great arm, and she wanted to get just one goal for herself this season, so it was nice that she did,” Grizzlies coach Mike Saldana said.

Kat Conen scored five goals, Grace Reego four, and Jalee Hagans and Lia Patrinellis scored two each. Hayley McAvoy and Xochitl Olson scored one goal apiece.
