Granite Bay sweeps Burbank in tennis opener

Riding a wave of dominating straight-set victories, the Granite Bay High boys tennis team swept away Burbank in the opening round of the Sac-Joaquin Section tournament. The Grizzlies took care of the Titans 9-0 Tuesday to open the Division II section team champinships. Brad Wong (6-0, 6-1), Kyle Pawlak (6-1,6-1) and Matt Veneman (6-0, 6-1) were all impressive winners in singles. Granite Bay's top two doubles teams were also big winners. Kevin Carlson and Nick McDonald (6-4, 6-0) and Matt Kreiser and Matt Palkowski (6-1, 6-1) took care of business for the Grizzlies. Granite Bay hosts Bella Vista, a 7-2 victor over Ceres in round one, in Wednesday's second round.
