Granite Bay is second, Roseville fifth in Lengfeld Memorial golf

Oakmont tennis moves to 5-1

Rocklin High School shot a 418 team score to win the Helen Lengfeld Memorial Tournament by 27 strokes Wednesday at Sunset Whitney in Rocklin.

Granite Bay, led by Paige Lee’s 80, was second at 445, and Whitney finished third at 461. Amber Ly shot an 84 for Granite Bay.

Davis was fourth at 490 and Roseville fifth at 499. Virgie Velazquez led Roseville with a 79. Courtney Lemos shot 99, Olivia Warnock 103, Natalie Farahani 106 and Madison Hambelton 112.

Woodcreek had a 548 team score.

Roseville second at NU — Virgie Velazquez shot a 77 for the medalist honor to lead Roseville High School’s girls golf team to a second-place finish in the fourth annual Lady Miner Fall Classic at Alta Sierra Country Club in Grass Valley.

Spanish Springs of Sparks, Nev., won the tournament with a 461 team score.
Roseville was second in the 11-team field at 496. Also for the Tigers, Madison Hambelton shot 92, Natalie Farahani 96, Courtney Lemos 112 and Claudia Traina 119.

Girls tennis

Oakmont now 5-1 — The Vikings defeated Whitney 8-1 on Wednesday to improve to 5-1 this season. Oakmont earlier blanked River Valley 9-0 and defeated Nevada Union 7-2.

In the Best of Sac Tournament, Oakmont sandwiched 9-0 victories over Natomas and Granite Bay’s No. 2 team around a 7-2 loss to Folsom.

Boys water polo

Roseville 17, Antelope 9 — The Tigers scored eight goals in the first quarter en route to a victory over the Titans. Nick Sapp led Roseville with five goals, and Bryce Reichmann scored three.

Evan Attica and Eric Waters each had three assists, three steals and a goal; Justin Young had two goals and three assists; Elijah Keaton had two goals and two assists; and Jacob Darby had two goals and two steals.

Jared Samsel had a goal and a steal, and Chance Owens made 16 saves in goal.

Girls volleyball

Oakmont 3, Roseville 1 — The Tigers (1-2) played what coach Ron Grove described as “our best game of the year,” but tough serving by the Vikings turned the momentum in the second set and Oakmont went on to win 25-27, 25-15, 25-23, 25-15.

Roseville’s Abby Jensen had 14 kills, a .520 hitting percentage and six blocks. Hayley Barnes had 24 digs for the Tigers. Gabby Lyttle and Jayme Lee came off the bench and combined for seven kills, and Kirsten Merlino made some great saves on defense.

Roseville 3, Woodland 0 — The Tigers had 53 kills and just nine errors in 101 attacks in their 25-16, 25-15, 25-21 sweep of the Wolves.

Outside hitter Kirsten Merlino had 12 kills in 19 attempts with no errors for Roseville, which hit .435 for the match. Middle hitters Abby Jensen and Jennifer Simon each had five kills and combined for eight blocks.

Libero Hayley Barnes led the Tigers with 11 digs and teamed with Marrisa Dumford, Jordyn Smith and Cameron Bones in the back row to set up Jessi Yaranon to run the offense.

Oakmont 3, San Juan 0 — Emily Larson had eight kills and four aces as the Vikings swept the Spartans 25-11, 25-6, 25-5. Ally Wubben had five kills and five aces.

Oakmont also won the JV match 25-9, 25-15.

Granite Bay 3, Bear River 1 — The Grizzlies pulled away to beat the Bruins 25-18, 18-25, 25-21, 25-15.
