Five pins carried Granite Bay High School’s wrestling team to a 48-27 victory over Roseville in a Sierra Foothill League dual meet Wednesday night at Moeller Gym.

Freshman Cordon Wade (113 pounds), senior Phil Canete (152) and sophomore Mitch Morse (170) recorded first-round pins for the Grizzlies, and senior Sean Brown (132) and sophomore Keaton Donald (106) pinned their opponents in the second round.

Granite Bay won three matches by forfeit and Roseville one.

The Tigers also won all six JV matches.

Oakmont 45, Rio Linda 33 — The Vikings had several JV personnel filling in because of illness and injuries, but they registered six pins in their Capital Valley Conference victory over the host Knights.

Tommy Krebs (106) and Marcus Abundis (113) started with quick falls for Oakmont. Kaleio Romero (160) and Peter Santos (182) recorded their pins wrestling up a division in weight. Michael Allard (126) and Brandon Medina (132) had the other two pins for the Vikings.

Medina was moved up from the JV squad, and Oakmont coach Justin Castrillo said he looks like “he can make some noise for us.”

Anthony Burman, another JV fill-in, was ahead on points when his Rio Linda opponent was called for locking hands four times before being disqualified, according to Castrillo.

Oakmont’s Kaden Davis (195) beat his foe 4-1.
