Granite Bay man, Roseville teen shine in fishing tourney

Michael Tuck of Granite Bay won the FLW Outdoors EverStart Western Division fishing event on Clear Lake, and Woodcreek High School student Travis Bounds placed second in the co-angler division.

Tuck set a personal best with a 6-pound, 4-ounce fish that took the big bass honor on Sept. 22, the first day of the tournament. Tuck totaled 76 pounds, 9 ounces on 15 fish weighed over the three-day event and won $29,919.

Bounds, 17, weighed in 10 fish totaling 36 pounds, 6 ounces through two days and finished with a combined weight of 54-9. He earned $3,985.

Winner Chad LeBlanc of Sutter, who was paired with Tuck, had a total weight of 58-14 and won a Ranger boat, motor and trailer.

Gearhart wins golf tourney

Woodcreek High School senior Lee Gearhart, 16, won the 84th annual Chico City Championship on Sept. 25.

Gearhart defeated Dan Mehan of Chico 2 and 1 in the 36-hole match-play final at Bidwell Park Golf Course, according to the Chico Enterprise Record.

Gearhart was seeded eighth for match play and won his first two matches before beating No. 1 seed Cody Thompson 1 up in the quarterfinals, according to the newspaper’s website.
