Granite Bay grad rises in two college wrestling rankings

Granite Bay High School graduate Ryan Loder has climbed into one national rankings poll and might have wrestled his way into another after his performance last weekend.

Loder, a redshirt freshman at the University of Northern Iowa, defeated three opponents in’s 184-pound rankings at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Loder beat No. 13 Mike Larson of Missouri 3-1, No. 20 C.J. Magrum of Ohio State 6-4 and No. 11 Chris Perry of Oklahoma State 8-2.

Loder has won nine of his last 11 matches and is 16-8 this season. He climbed to 14th in the nation in The Wrestling Report’s rankings by finishing fifth in the 48th Midlands Championships on Dec. 29-30 at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. Loder pinned No. 1 Grant Gambrall of Iowa at 6 minutes, 59 seconds in the fifth-place match.

Loder won four titles and was 32-5 last season competing in open tournaments.
As a Granite Bay senior in 2009, Loder placed fifth in the State Meet at 189 pounds.
