Granite Bay grad Loder earns return trip to NCAA Championships
University of Northern Iowa wrestler Ryan Loder, a Granite Bay High School graduate, earned his second consecutive berth to the NCAA Championships with a runner-up finish in the NCAA West Regional last weekend in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The Panthers will send five wrestlers to St. Louis, Mo., for the NCAA Championships from March 14-17. Northern Iowa finished second with 76 points to Western Wrestling Conference-champion Wyoming, which totaled 93.5.
Loder, a redshirt sophomore who’s ranked seventh in the nation at 184 pounds, improved to 32-4 this season. He won a 10-1 major decision over David Prieto of Utah Valley in the first round and scored a 16-0 technical fall over Mac Stoll of North Dakota State before losing to top-ranked Joe LeBlanc of Wyoming 5-4 in the final. Loder defeated LeBlanc last season but has lost to him twice this season.
