Granite Bay girls water polo is third in Sierra Shootout

Woodcreek cross country boys, girls are second in Trojan Invite

Granite Bay High School’s girls water polo team finished third among 17 other teams in the Sierra Shootout last weekend at Sierra College in Rocklin.
Jessica Hamby, Amanda Wirth and Kaylynn Kelsey received outstanding player awards, and Alison Hamby was named all-tournament.
“I am proud of the girls for their drive and competitiveness throughout the whole tournament,” coach Sarah Norton said. “The girls are starting to click, and it is fun to watch.”
The Grizzlies defeated Napa 11-5 and California 7-2 before falling to Presentation 4-3 on Saturday and beating Clayton Valley 9-4. Granite Bay defeated Ponderosa 6-4 for third.
Jessica Hamby led the Grizzlies with 18 goals in the tournament. Alison Hamby scored seven and Wirth three. Kelsey totaled 22 saves.

Cross country
Woodcreek High School’s varsity boys and girls each finished second in the Trojan Invite at Willow Hill in Folsom. The Timberwolves girls were the top Division II team in the meet. Vacaville won the boys title and St. Francis the girls crown.
Woodcreek sophomore Karina Nunes won the girls race in 19 minutes, 30 seconds. Juniors McCall Habermehl and Sami Gomez finished 16th and 17th, senior Ashley Devriend was 19th, and junior Ciara Donnelly was 28th.
Woodcreek junior Brandon Biando was seventh, junior Hunter Tyler 13th and freshman Taylor Guinnip 14th in the boys race. Austin Mason in 20th and Angelo Ciaraglia in 24th rounded out the scoring.
Also, Woodcreek’s Janice Mallery won the JV girls race in 22:29, and sophomore Sam Devereux won the frosh-soph boys large-schools race in 11:35.

Boys soccer
Granite Bay 10, Oakmont 0 – The Grizzlies rolled over the Vikings in a nonconference match at Granite Bay. The Grizzlies scored twice in the first 10 minutes, and Cody Giddings scored in the 27th and 30th minutes as Granite Bay led 4-0 at halftime. Giddings completed his hat trick with a goal in the 49th minute on an assist by Diego Garcia. Six minutes later, Garcia scored. Tommy Thompson scored two goals, and Tyler Jackson had three assists.

College volleyball
Jessup skid ends
– California Pacific Conference Player of the Week Morgan Saunders had 41 assists to help set up a combined 32 kills by freshman Brittany Malone (a career-high 18) and senior Geanna Foster (14) as William Jessup came from behind to beat Dominican 25-23, 22-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-13 on Saturday in San Rafael. Freshman Cameo Lommori had 16 digs for the Lady Warriors.

Granite Bay fundraiser
Granite Bay’s girls basketball program will be host to its first Grizzly Gallop – a 10K, 5K and one-mile kids’ fun run – at 8 a.m. Oct. 10 at Sculpture Park, 250 N. Sunrise Blvd., in Roseville.
Registration fees are: $35 for adults until Oct. 1 and $40 thereafter, and $20 for runners under 18 until Oct. 1 and $25 thereafter. The kids’ mile run costs $15 until Oct. 1 and $20 thereafter.
