October issues of Glamour magazine were spilled onto Interstate 80 in Rocklin Thursday morning after two big rig trucks collided. Approximately 1 a.m. Thursday, an unmarked big rig truck collided with a Safeway big rig truck about a mile from Rocklin Road on I-80 westbound. Both drivers reported to only have minor scratches, according to Sgt. Doug Milligan with the California Highway Patrol. The driver of the unmarked big rig was trying to close his window as traffic slowed to approximately 10 to 15 miles per hour due to a prior collision near the Highway 65 exit, according to Milligan. Milligan said the driver of the unmarked truck, in the middle lane, swerved left to avoid a collision and clipped the back of a Safeway big rig truck. A third driver in a pick-up truck was also involved after being hit with debris. The driver was not injured, Milligan said. Lanes were closed until about 4 a.m. to clear debris, which included copies of Glamour magazine’s October issue. Both truck beds were destroyed and the drivers were wearing their seatbelts, Milligan said. “That’s the only reason that man walked away from that,” Milligan said. Robert Richner of Recology Auburn Placer, formerly Auburn Placer Disposal Service, said he arrived on scene at 4:30 a.m. to clean up the debris, which amounted to three dumpsters full. At noon, Richner and his crew were still cleaning up the mess. Traffic was still backed up along I-80 from Rocklin Road to the scene of the accident at noon Thursday.
