Get tattooed for the kids
The time has come for Wild Bill’s Tattoo’s annual tattoo-a-thon to raise money for UC Davis Children’s Hospital.
This year marks the 10th annual fundraiser. Eighteen volunteers will work without pay for 16 hours straight to tattoo and pierce dozens of clients expected to come through the doors of the Vernon Street tattoo studio.
Last year, volunteers created ink designs on about 100 people during the one-day event, raising $15,000.
“It’s going to be hard to top that but we will do our best,” said owner Bill Hill, in a press release. “We tattooed everything under the sun, including a lot of baby footprints and portraits of their children on them.”
Unlike some fundraisers that donate only a portion of proceeds to a given cause, Wild Bill’s Tattoo will give 100 percent of the money raised that day — through the sales of tattoos, piercings, gift certificates, jewelry, T-shirts and tips — to the children’s hospital.
The local studio has raised $110,000 to date. Hill said the hospital recently informed him that part of a new unit at the facility will be named after Wild Bill’s Tattoo.
“I just couldn’t believe it,” he said. “We are truly honored. We are so fortunate to have a world-class medical facility like UC Davis Children’s Hospital here in Sacramento. The hospital and its renowned medical staff have a profound impact on our community.”
