For the second consecutive year, Granite Bay High sophomore Elliott Adams captured the Sac-Joaquin Section diving title with a score of 475.90 at Johansen High in Modesto last Saturday. The victory followed a second-place finish in the section trials, as he finished behind Hunter Smith of Kennedy. The finals result was one of Adams highest all-time scores, and it earns him his second All-American recognition. Adams won the Sierra Foothill League champions the previous week at Whitney High in dramatic fashion. During that 11-dive meet, the section champion hit his head on the board during his most difficult dive - a reverse 2 1/2 with a high degree of difficulty. During his second flip, he came into contact with the board, which not only called his further participation into question, but also cost major points. After a brief break to assess his injuries, Adams elected to continue, and managed to claim the league title. He was later taken the hospital and diagnosed with a mild concussion.
