Former Woodcreek hurler earns all-star nod

Woodcreek High alum Eric Berger has earned a spot in the Carolina League vs. California League all-star game to be played June 23 in Lake Elsinore, Calif. The southpaw, who played collegiately at the University of Arizona, is among the Carolina League leaders in earned run average, playing for the Kinston Indians, the advanced Single-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians in Kinston, N.C. Berger is currently fourth in the league with a 2.48 ERA. The University of Arizona product is 3-4 in eleven starts this season. Berger has struck out 49 batters in 54 plus innings this season, giving up only 15 earned runs all year.
