A pedestrian was killed Tuesday night in Roseville during a four-car pile up following a police pursuit of a driver allegedly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. According to Roseville police, the incident began around 8 p.m. with a 911 call about reckless driving on Junction Boulevard. An eyewitness told emergency dispatchers that a pickup truck was harassing motorists, swerving, tailing-gating and burning out on the roadway. Following a tip, Roseville officers located the green truck in question at a recycling center on Washington Boulevard. The call then took a more serious turn when the driver, Oleg Tarasuk, allegedly became confrontational with officers, revving his engine and pushing a patrol car out of his way with the front of his truck. “One of our patrol cars tried to block him in to try to keep him from running and (the officer’s) car was pushed into a field,” said Roseville Police Lt. Mike Doane, adding that Tarasuk fled from police southbound on Washington Boulevard. “The other two officers had to run back to their cars to follow the suspect, and by that time the collision had already taken place.” The collision the officers came upon was at the intersection of Washington and Main streets. Tarasuk had allegedly collided with three other vehicles and caused the death of a pedestrian, 26-year-old Gregory Delacampa of Roseville. Witnesses said the victim was standing near the 7-Eleven convenience store. “He just happened to be walking in the area and he got hit as a result of the crash,” Doane said. Roseville police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said Tarasuk and another driver involved in the wreck were taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. After being medically cleared, Tarasuk was arrested on felony charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics and gross vehicular manslaughter. His bail was set at $275,000. Tarasuk, 50, is a Roseville resident. Scott Thomas Anderson can be reached at Follow him on Twitter at ScottA_RsvPT.
