Is an FBI facility coming to Roseville?
Roseville could be the future home of an FBI building.
City officials are crossing their fingers this will happen and they have reason to believe it's a strong possibility.
The U.S. General Services Administration released a request for information in November 2011, seeking interest from a development team to "design, construct and maintain an office building under a long-term lease agreement." The request specifically identifies an 11.8-acre site in Roseville.
The request doesn't specifically reference the FBI, but Roseville officials have speculated that's the intended occupant, said city of Roseville Community Development Manager Chris Robles.
The city also thinks the site in question refers to a parcel off Eureka Road in the Northeast Roseville Specific Plan. The request states that "construction will have to comply with specified state-of-the-art technology" and be about 25,000 to 40,000 square feet. The building would open in 2015.
Robles said having an FBI facility in Roseville would create new jobs. He calls the General Services announcement "encouraging," but said the news is still largely speculation at this point.
The General Services Administration did not return a request for comment or confirmation.
