Farmer’s market sprouts up Saturday in RC Willey parking lot

It will no longer take a trip to another city for residents to purchase farm-fresh produce. This weekend marks the grand opening celebration of Rocklin’s farmer’s market. Two years ago the city had a farmer’s market, and since then the Foothill Farmer’s Market Association has wanted to bring it back, according to Carol Arnold, general manager of the Foothill Farmer’s Market Association. The association has been providing farmer’s markets throughout the county for more than 20 years. With markets held almost every day of the week, the group provides California certified farm-fresh fruits, veggies, flowers, nuts, honey, eggs and nursery stock. At this weekend’s Rocklin location, visitors can expect the most in-season produce and goods. Arnold said the vendors that will be on hand Saturday depends on what’s in season. It’s also influenced by the weather. “The weather is really wreaking havoc on everything,” she said. But what people can expect is organic veggies from National Trading Company, juicy strawberries, as well as citrus marinades and other products. For opening day June 5, a blue grass band composed of local farmers will provide live music, in addition to other festivities. Joanne Neft, author of “Placer County Real Food,” will be signing her book and David Hill, chef of A Chef’s Table in Rocklin, will be attracting people with a chef’s demonstration. “We think it’s going to be a big, strong market,” Arnold said. Rocklin’s farmer’s market will run from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays from June 5 through Oct. 30 at the RC Willey parking lot in the Blue Oaks Town Center, 6636 Lonetree Blvd. ~Lauren Gibbs Know and Go Rocklin farmer’s market When: 8 a.m. to noon, Saturdays starting June 5 through Oct. 30 Where: RC Willey parking lot in Blue Oaks Town Center, 6636 Lonetree Blvd. Information:
