Elks Lodge hosts first stage of national free throw contest

The Roseville Elks Lodge #2248 will hold its annual Hoop Shoot free throw contest at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Kaseberg Elementary School, 1040 Main Street, in Roseville.

There is no charge for the competition for boys and girls ages 8-13. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age division.

More than 3 million children nationwide are expected to compete through local, state, regional and national competitions.

Roseville PONY baseball holding signups

Roseville PONY Baseball will hold signups for the 2012 season from 6-8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Round Table at 1020 Pleasant Grove/Roseville Parkway.

Fees are $95 for the Shetland Division (5- and 6-year-olds), $115 for the Pinto (7-8), Mustang (9-10), Bronco (11-12) and Pony (13-14) divisions and $70 per sibling. Board members will attend the registration sessions to answer questions. Signups also can be done online at www.rosevilleponybaseball.com.

PONY plays by Major League Baseball rules beginning with the Mustang Division, including leading off base, stealing and the dropped third strike.

Field sizes graduate by division, from 50-foot basepaths in Shetland and Pinto to 60 feet in Mustang, 70 feet in Bronco and 80 feet in Pony. The pitcher’s mound moves back from 44 feet in Mustang to 48 feet in Bronco and 54 feet in Pony.

Knights of Columbus free throw contest

The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at St. Rose Church, 615 Vine Ave., in Roseville.

The contest is open to girls and boys ages 10-14. There will be 10 winners.
