Virtually all teachers in the Dry Creek school district have completed an English-learner certification that became a flashpoint last year over layoffs. District staff reported to trustees this week that all but one teacher had received the certification, known as CLAD. The remaining teacher was in the process of obtaining it. The little-known teaching requirement garnered headlines in 2008 when it was used as a criteria for layoff notices, trumping seniority, but no teachers actually ended up being laid off. The district has provided training programs for teachers to achieve the certification.
