Three home runs on offense backed a Ryan Cordell no-hitter as the Valley Christian Academy baseball team took an 11-0 win over Bradshaw Christian Tuesday at VCA. Cordell struck out 11 in the game, which was shortened to five innings by the 10-run mercy rule. The Lions tallied five times in the first frame, and added four more in the second, with a grand slam home run in each stanza. “Cordell was dominating on the mound today,” said Valley Christian coach Brad Gunter. “The stats show how well he threw for us.” Donovan Allen blasted the first four-run four-bagger, unloading in the first inning to provide an early 4-0 advantage. A Chris Parker single chased home the inning’s fifth run. Paul Finnell provided the fireworks in the second, with a grand slam of his own. In the fourth, it was Allen again, this time hitting a two-run shot that put the Lions over the 10-run threshold. “It was a huge win for our program” Gunter said. “We guaranteed at least a co-championship with the win and that makes 12 straight.” The two teams get together again on Friday at Bradshaw Christian’s home field, where VCA will look to lock up sole possession of the SMAL title and the league’s top seed into the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.
