A $12,000 United Auburn Indian Community grant to Cooley Middle School will go toward upgrading the school’s seventh and eighth grade computer labs, the school announced. The grant was made as part of UAIC’s Community Giving Program. “Cooley Middle School gratefully acknowledges the grant from the United Auburn Indian Community Giving Program,” a statement from the school’s parent-teacher club said. “Cooley Middle School has over 900 students enrolled, and the generous United Auburn Indian Community Giving Program Grant will directly improve their education and eventual career success through use of computer technology at this early age.” UAIC, the Native American tribe that operates the Thunder Valley Casino, has provided more than $4.6 million as part of the Community Giving Program, established in 2004. Monies go toward supporting education, health, arts and other community benefit organizations.
