Comeback victory helps Oakmont girls get into basketball playoffs
Oakmont High School overcame a four-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat visiting Rio Linda 40-36 in a Capital Valley Conference finale Friday night and qualify for the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.
Sydney Sattelberg and Olivia Francis each made a basket and Emilee Gavia sank a
free throw to provide the difference for the Vikings (15-12 overall, 5-5 CVC).
Francis made two three-pointers in the third quarter and led Oakmont with 13 points.
Francis and Brittany Martin held All-CVC guard Amber Huffines of the Knights (13-13, 1-9) to 11 points, Bianca Aibuedefe and Kendra Barnhard combined to control 5-foot-10 senior Paulette Williams, and Kelsey Caudill returned from a shoulder injury to grab 10 defensive rebounds.
“Once again, it took everyone we had available,” said Oakmont coach Al Voigt, whose team drew the No. 13 seed in Division III and played at Fairfield-Vanden on Tuesday night.
