Civic Theatre West announces inaugural fundraiser

"Gems by Moonlight" food, music event will raise funds for nonprofit theater organization
-A +A
Civic Theatre West will soon present “Gems by Moonlight,” an inaugural fundraising event to benefit the two-decade old nonprofit theater company. The event also helps ring in the Roseville company’s 2010-11 season, which opened Sept. 10 with “The Drowsy Chaperone.” During the event, patrons can sip champagne and munch on appetizers at a reception in the Roseville Theatre lobby. Attendees will then have the chance to participate in jeweler Tiffany & Co.’s “Pearls for a Cause” benefit event — 100 percent of the funds raised go to the theater, and one participant will win a Tiffany pearl necklace. Next, patrons will be treated to a concert by Moonlight Swing Big Band, a 20-performer Swing-Era band with a Glen Miller influence. The band is a nonprofit living history organization dedicated to preserving the music of the 1930s and ‘40s, said Grant Pyle, orchestra leader and president of the group, in a press release. The band recently made Civic Theatre West’s Tower Theater its official home for recording and rehearsals. “Gems by Moonlight” is the first fundraiser of its kind for the theater, which last spring announced a new brand and a reinvigorated vision statement that focuses on community involvement and varied opportunities for participation in the arts, in addition to presenting outstanding theatrical performances in its two historic venues. Funds raised at the event will assist the company in continuing its mission of entertaining, engaging and educating theater patrons and community members. “The exciting partnership with Tiffany, the incredible big band music and a pleasant harvest evening are sure to make this event both enjoyable and successful,” said Calvin Stevens, president of Civic Theatre West’s volunteer board of directors. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this creative and exciting event to the region.” Civic Theatre West’s 2010-11 season opened last week with “The Drowsy Chaperone.” The rest of the season includes, “Crimes of the Heart,” “Deathtrap,” “Plaid Tidings,” “Annie,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Leading Ladies,” “Sweeney Todd,” “The Boys Next Door” and “The Producers.” ~ Sena Christian ---------- What: Civic Theatre West presents “Gems by Moonlight” fundraiser When: 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 Where: Roseville Theater, 241 Vernon St. in Roseville Cost: $25 Info: To purchase tickets, (call) 916-782-1777 or visit www.civicwest.org
