As consumers we can be naughty or nice to our planet. The Roseville Utility Exploration Center is offering a series of activities to help you be nice by being green this holiday season.

Greening your holiday exhibit

Explore the free “Greening Your Holiday” exhibit, which runs from Tuesday, Nov. 1 to Dec. 23. Organized into naughty and nice practices, the exhibit demonstrates how to celebrate the holidays in style, while saving energy and reducing waste.

Compare for yourself how much energy is used by light emitting diode (LED) holiday lights versus incandescent tree lights. Explore alternatives to use-it-once-and-throw-it-away wrapping paper and table wear. The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Create beautiful traditions without the waste

Learn a beautiful and environmentally friendly way to decorate and wrap gifts at our Holiday Gift Wrapping Drop-In Days at the Utility Exploration Center. This free hands-on family activity demonstrates unusual recycled paper alternatives and the Japanese-inspired craft of wrapping with cloth called Furoshiki. Drop in days are 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays Nov. 19, 26 and Dec. 3 and 17.

Brighten your holidays with free LED Lights

Roseville Electric customers can get free LED holiday lights this season as part of the annual holiday light exchange. Beginning Tuesday, Nov.1, bring three strands of your old incandescent holiday lights to the Roseville Utility Exploration Center to exchange them for up to three strands of Energy Star-rated LED lights. Participation is limited to stock on hand. Bring a copy of your utility bill as proof of residency.

Incandescent lights will be recycled courtesy of SIMS Recycling Solutions in Roseville – we will gladly recycle additional strands of lights beyond the three you exchange. Visit or call 79-POWER. For more information on the Roseville Utility Exploration Center, visit, call (916) 746-1550 or visit the center at 1501 Pleasant Grove Blvd.
